The Deglon Meeting Knife Set for $1000

The Deglon Meeting Knife Set for $1000

I came across this interesting Knife Set on Amazon. Costing USD1000, “The Deglon Meeting Knife Set is practical, durable and a work of art. Designed by Mia Schmallenbach and produced by Deglon, it won first prize in the 5th European Cutlery Design Award. This lovely set is made of high quality stainless steel and seemingly appears to be created from a single block of stainless steel. Each knife nests within the set. To remove each knife, simply press down near the tip of the blade and life knife away by the handle. Set includes a 3-1/4-inch paring knife, 5-1/4-inch utility knife, 8-inch chef knife, 8-3/4-inch slicer and matching stainless steel block. Occasionally, use a steel to sharpen. Hand wash and dry, recommended. Made in France by Deglon. Deglon – handcrafter of quality cutlery since 1821. Limited lifetime warranty.”

I mean, just look at how nicely sliced the sushi are. You can also derive the time taken to slice those sushi from the state of those bean sprouts and onions.

Quality of articles on PCMag is going down…

While the iPad and tablets of today pretty much operate as standalone devices—and some will continue to do so—I am starting to think now that they will actually be the detachable screens on most laptops of tomorrow. After using the iPad with the Zagg Folio, I can actually see this concept being flushed out and eventually representing the form factor for a large user audience someday. That’s why the tablet is so important.

When Apple introduced the iPad, most of us just thought of it as a cool product, but one that stood on its own. In fact, it seems to me that it is actually a key part of the form factor of future mobile devices and in many ways, the fulfillment of Bill Gates’ vision from 20 years ago.

Source

Bullshit. My response?

For me I see iPad as something that is purely for entertainment only. I see everyone treating iPad as an adult gameboy. Zagg is a third party and it’s keyboard case certainly isn’t representative of Apple’s vision for IPad, which was to sell content. If Apple’s vision was so noble as the way you put it, Apple would have their own form of keyboard attachment by now.

If you look at the bigger picture, there is only one tablet OS fitting Gates’ vision you talked about. USB support, ability to plug in SD cards, PC-like functionality and flexibility. As well as TRUE multitasking. That is Android.

On the hardware front, look at Asus Transformer released more than a year back. It is exactly as you described. A laptop form factor with detachable screen. In fact, this article was typed on an Asus Transformer Prime, which is already a second iteration of this very concept you say is “futuristic”.

While Apple is selling you present technology as “futuristic”, the real future is here already. Time to wake up.

iBooks or “I booked you?”

iBooks or “I booked you?”

Now although iBooks Author Tool is free to use, Apple has it that you can only give your work away for free or sell it through Apple’s book store. In other words, Apple owns your work that you created using iBook.

If you wrote a book, it is not yours to choose where you want to sell it. You can’t print it out to sell it. You can’t sell it on any competitor’s book stores. It is as if what you wrote belongs to Apple.

In summary, if you wrote something on iBooks Author Tool, you can only sell it to Apple users. Or give it away for free.

Now let’s see who is stupid enough to use it.

iBooks Author: You Work For Apple Now

With iBooks Author, Apple just made a hideous play to kill authors’ rights over their work. This doesn’t just affect big publishers like Pearson or HarperCollins; it affects every single person who wants to use Apple’s new tool to get their word out. Like iBooks Author? Apple now owns you.

Being a child once again

Being a child once again

Gundam to me is about two things:
1) Adult/society politics with shades of grey, not having a faction that is purely correct or wrong
2) Really awesome mecha design

The most recent series of Gundam, Gundam Age was unfortunately targeted for a much younger audience demographics, with “Astroboy”-like character designs and simplified mecha details. Still, I decided to watch and see where the series take me, and to connect with my inner child.

Until I saw this in episode 2. Somehow it made me laugh real hard.

“Mummy, I love you”

“Mummy, I love you”

Cute?

China Press reported that a seven-year-old boy in Singapore lip kissed his mother after watching a couple in a television programme kissing passionately.

He was watching the show with his 38-year-old mother when the couple hugged and kissed in a scene.

It was reported that the boy suddenly jumped into her arms, kissed her on the lips and said “I love you!” to her surprise.

A psychiatrist explained that a child under the age of eight was intellectually immature and could be easily influenced by their surroundings.

He added that the young were easily influenced by what they watched on television.

He advised parents to teach their children right from wrong.
